Here’s a little story from my own wedding
I’d been planning for over a year. I’d delegated jobs to my friends and family.
The wedding weekend arrives...
I pull up behind my parents house and walk up the flagstone path to their front door. Inside, the dining room table is covered in beautiful flowers picked from my mom’s garden and a few women gathered around talking and making bouquets for the wedding
I say hello and thank them for helping. I had really wanted to stay and relax and help with the flowers, but I have other things only I can get done.
As I head to my hair appointment, my brother calls. I forgot to give him a check for the woman who made the cupcakes. I tell him what to pay her, and promise to pay him back.
As I’m getting my make up done for the wedding, I get question after question about where I want decorations, or where the microphone should be set up. We had held a rehearsal, but there are still more questions!
After the guests are seated and I am getting ready to head to the ceremony site, a friend asks me if there’s anything I need. I ask her to check the alter that I had wanted to set up – this is something that I really wanted to be in charge of – but of course I would have needed to do it earlier, I couldn’t walk up in front of everyone now in my wedding dress! Just another perfect vision I had to let go of.
We had a lovely ceremony, delicious food and fun dancing. When the time came for the party to be over, guess what? – we all had to take down the decorations before we left! Packing them into the school bus that was shuttling us down the mountain – I had not thought about how they would get transported away from the venue. It was a stressful end to a fun night.
Take it from me, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”
