Weddings are a Rite of Passage

Have you ever considered how many rites of passage are wrapped up in a wedding?
There are so many! Keep reading for a few examples. And remember, these rites of passage are for you, your partner and everyone who loves you. This comes with a lot of emotions including fear, anxiety, grief and joy.

It can feel like a lot… because it is a lot!

Identity – ‘I’ becomes ‘We’

Weddings represent a massive change in your identity. It is a separation from your nuclear family and the creation of a brand new one. It is a letting go as well as a welcoming in.

With this change comes all sorts of emotions, including grief, that are perfectly normal and natural for this huge life change.

Family

Weddings celebrate the union of two families and the birth of a new one.

This new family – your family – is part of, and unique from, the nuclear families that are giving you away.

All members of the families involved may have joyous and melancholy emotions. This is natural. Having a safe place to express these emotions is one way a wedding doula can help.

Community

Many folks are lucky to have the support of the their friends and family during their engagement.

These are the people we have learned to trust and lean upon during challenging times.

However, for a variety of reasons, the ones closest to you may not be the best at supporting you through this transitional time.

Our friends and family have their own emotions they are processing and may not understand or be available to hear your worries and woes.

With a wedding doula, you can speak your mind without worrying about hurting anyone’s feelings.

I started Intuitive Wedding Doula because it is what I wished I had when I was engaged.

I needed connection. I needed healing. I wanted to be held in a sacred container with love and no expectations. I could not find it for my journey, so I created it for yours.

I offer you these resources and services with my love, trust and compassion, and hope that you find exactly what you need.

“I was so thankful for my doula’s [Kate’s] presence. She was someone I could be real with (not the perfect, gracious bride if I didn’t want to be), and someone whose sweet, calm energy gave me confidence everything was going to work out!”
